Renovation Timeline

The Daniel Library will undergo a renovation this summer that will close down parts of the building, and result in a renovated entrance, new service desk, new center staircase, asbestos removal, replaced ceilings and energy-efficient lights.

From Friday, May 7, 2010 through Sunday, May 9, 2010, the Daniel Library will be closed for asbestos abatement related to this planned renovation project.

When the Daniel Library reopens at 8:00 am on Monday, May 10, 2010, only the north end of the building will be accessible. This means that patrons will enter through the handicapped entrance or the patio door entrance. In the Board of Visitors (BOV) area on the north end of the Daniel Library, we will situate service desks and most behind-the-scenes functions. There will be a limited number of computer workstations for affiliated Citadel faculty/staff/students to use. Collections will be limited to first floor books, journals, microforms, some magazines and some newspapers. Course reserves and third floor collections will also be accessible. DVDs will not be lent during this time period.

The second floor collections will not be accessible for the duration of the project. Anything needed from these subject areas will be obtained through PASCAL Delivers. Rare Book Room materials will not be accessible. First floor and second floor restrooms, loading dock and elevator will not be accessible. Java City will not be in operation.

The summer schedule will commence on Monday, May 10, 2010 meaning that the library will be open on Sundays from 2pm-9pm, Mondays-Thursdays from 8am-9pm. During the summer, the library will be closed all day on Fridays and Saturdays, in alignment with the college's mandated four-day workweek.

The contractors will release the building back to us by August 25, 2010. As the project progresses, we will keep you informed through our renovation blog, Daniel Library blog, and Facebook page.

Leadership Collection at the library

In honor of the 2010 Leadership Symposium on campus, we are encouraging patrons to browse our leadership collection. Located near the chess tables on the north end of the library, the collection features books on topics such as ethics, management styles, and military leaders, just to name a few.

If you need to, please see a reference librarian for assistance.

The Citadel and the American Civil War Research Guide

We have created a Research Guide to assist those interested in learning more about The Citadel's involvement in the American Civil War. It features archival material, journal articles, books, and Web resources. Also included are the Daniel Library Friends Guest Speakers' publications. We will continue to add to the Guide as sesquicentennial commemorations and special dates approach.
